At their annual Fan-fest event in Iceland, CCP announced it would be making a series of web comics in collaboration with Dark Horse to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of EVE Online. To keep their subscribers involved they opted to allow people to share their stories, of which the highest rated would be used as the base of the comics. Tales were told, votes were cast, winners were chosen and comics were produced. The first storyline is unsurprisingly The Fall of Band of Brothers, the best known event in EVE player history.
The first comic will follow one man on his journey of discontent and treachery, shifting the balance of power and anointing a new diplomatic superpower in the galaxy of New Eden. Even though none of these episodes happened in the real world, they are all true events and had some effect on real world assets and lives. All the stories are available to read on the True Stories website and most are highly interesting.
Dark Horse has done a great job transferring the world of New Eden over to the graphic novel, as they have previously with Mass Effect and The Thing, with context boxes subtly explaining all slang and references. Perfect for those interested in the lore and mechanics of EVE but find the gameplay too intimidating, the series should have a much wider audience than just the EVE playerbase.
